The Salsa Socialite: Success Starts with No

Ashanti Altovese - Professional dancer and instructor
Hola Salseros,
Are you in the middle of a project that has come to a plateau because someone else isn’t holding up his or her end of the bargain? Do you feel under-appreciated and can’t understand why doors keep slamming in your face every time you ask, plead, or try to progress on something that is positive, creative, and novel? Have you tried everything you can to keep motivated and not give up on your dreams but just can’t seem to find the right people, places, or things to give you that boost and much needed luck to keep going? Your Salsa salvation is here with The Salsa Socialite©, the lifestyle guide to Salsa food, fashion, and fitness.
It’s a stage in life that many people go through, sometimes repeatedly, the cycle of ups and downs related to tragic events, toxic people, and natural disasters. There even comes a point when we feel like we can’t take any more because how can one person handle all this drama? Yes, it can be hard, but one must remember the rule that all those follow who are on a path to greatness, “Success starts with No”.
It’s true! No is powerful. This simple two-letter word is negative in its connotation but can be a motivator and creator of positive energy for the person that receives it. All it requires is the belief in yourself and the strength to know that the universe wants you be successful and therefore always agrees to your wishes, people on the other hand are influenced by a different set of factors and can react to requests, even those that are good, in a negative way. It’s frustrating to continuously encounter no after no after no but remember that you are building your foundation of courage, perseverance, self-knowledge, and education. Without it, all that you build will crack under the weight of the success that will eventually come. You must remain steadfast in your endeavors and seek positive influence from all sources, some as a simple as a baby’s laugh or as complex as watching a Broadway musical. Regardless of where you get it, utilize this energy to build your dream up and pass it on to others who are feeling the same.
No matter where we are in life, it’s important to know that anything can happen to anyone at any time. Nothing is off limits because that is the nature of the world we live in. There is a constant battle between the forces of positive and negative and this will continue until the end of time. It should be our goal to alleviate the pressure and stress from our daily world with words of encouragement, acts of kindness, and thoughts of love because all this will make it’s way back to us and create a feeling of stability and security. So remember when you’re on your daily grind, and the “n” word comes up, feel good in knowing that you’re another step closer to fulfilling your dream, because it’s more than just a dance, it’s a lifestyle.

The Salsa Socialite©: Salsa on the High Seas

Galaxy Motor Luxury Yacht
Dance is fantastic when it can be experienced in a beautiful foreign land. It’s special when one can travel to different cities while experiencing the food, culture, and people that make that location one of a kind. It’s even better if there’s a Salsa congress to feed the need for Latin musical bliss, intense workshops, and performances from the best in the business. But have you ever experienced dancing Salsa in total luxury on the high seas? If not, welcome to the world of The Salsa Socialite©, the lifestyle guide to Salsa food, fashion, and fitness.
Just imagine yourself with eleven other lucky guests on a simple little voyage to none other than the high cliffs of Greece for a week of sunbathing, swimming, and all out relaxation Salsa style. You decide to take the ultimate vessel in Mediterranean and Caribbean Sea travel, a luxury yacht that glistens in the sun while the salt water splashes at its bough. And why not, you deserve the best that life can offer because you worked hard for it. You sacrificed when others indulged in instant gratification, and now you’re here – living the life. Let’s see how you plan on celebrating your success on the high seas…
Your luxury yacht has a total of six cabins for comfortable sleeping, a cool 183 feet for entertaining your guests of the Salsa elite, and exotic woods and marbles that keep you at ease and wondering how much decadence can a Salsero take. With the wine cellar stocked full, its best to save the multiple turns for solid ground as the rolling of the waves may cause slight disorientation. And when you’re in need of a little workout for the swimwear body, you have your full exercise gym on the lower deck for a convenient sweat session. Lastly, what would a luxury yacht be without a Jacuzzi to soothe your tender muscles after exercise, dancing, swimming, and rolling over in the sun? Don’t worry, we understand your exertion and would gladly have you take the elevator to transport you from deck to deck on your luxury sea ride. Congratulations are due to you as you are living the life of Salsa opulence.
Now how is that for a Salsa experience? It beats even the best salsa congress but can be used as a pre-party warm up or an after-party cool down. Regardless of how you do it, the point is – do it! Because it’s more than just a dance, it’s a lifestyle!

Use Food as Fuel to Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle
Roasted Veggies with Olive Oil, Salt, & Black Pepper
San Francisco has many options for dance fitness with popular studios such as Cheryl Burke Dance offering Ballroom dance classes , 24hr Fitness gyms offering Zumba classes, and Hot Pink Feathers providing classes in Samba Cabaret. But dance alone will not lead you to the highest levels of health possible. As you continue into the New Year, consider developing a positive relationship with food to promote a healthy lifestyle.
Having a positive relationship with food means using it as fuel for the body versus as a coping mechanism. Each day is an emotional roller coaster with food playing a major role in helping to deal with challenges or to celebrate accomplishments. Regardless of the occasion, the ultimate goal should be to utilize food as a fuel source and nourishment for the body. People get into trouble when food calms the mind during times of distress.
Of course this doesn’t mean that food shouldn’t be enjoyable. Quite the opposite! Food should be consumed at a time when it’s at its best state for human consumption. As a compliment to a creative dance fitness regiment of Ballet, Salsa, Ballroom, Belly dance, or Erotic dance, food should fuel your body for whatever dance it’s expressing. The more energy you need to dance the more calories you need to burn for fuel. Let those calories be healthy and delicious!
